The Orchestra students thank you for your help - 27 March 2011

Christchurch earthquake dust cloud 22 February 2011

The appeal to assist in fund raising for the Linwood College Orchestra's tour of the Europe and the United Kingdom in April 2011, is now concluded due to the required monetary level being achieved for the tour to proceed.

The Orchestra's conductor, Tony Ryan, advises that all involved with the tour thank everyone from throughout for their help. He also writes; 'We have been overwhelmed by the generosity shown to us and are now looking forward immensely to the trip.'

Situation

The Linwood College students orchestra is scheduled to tour Europe and the United Kingdom in April 2011. Major fundraising has been undertaken and up until 22 February 2011, the students had a shortfall of $50,000. Linwood College orchestra

Major fund raising events had been planned to make up the cash shortfall but the earthquake on 22 February dramatically impacted on the plans. If they can't get the remaining money needed they don't undertake the tour. Their plight was aired on TVNZ One news, Wednesday 9 March 2011, prompting this funds appeal directly to the military veteran community.

Confirmation of an invitation to play at Westminster Abbey on ANZAC Day had been received by the orchestra administrators less than 24 hours before the earthquake struck at 12:51pm on 22 February 2011.

The Orchestra's students and families have determination to make the April 9 departure to play in Italy, Salzburg, Paris and the UK, and most of all at Westminster Abbey on ANZAC Day. The realisation of that goal has been achieved by generous response from throughout, not just from this web page.

Misssion

The mission was for military veterans to kindly make a monetary donation to enable the orchestra group to make up the $50,000 shortfall so that the scheduled tour will occur.

Execution

The Linwood College has an official web site where donations were made by means of internet banking or payment by cheque. The means include:
